This unique opportunity on the Call of Duty: Vanguard advertising campaign at Petrol came because I have a particular expertise in WWII airplanes. I grew up with two grandfathers and my father working in aviation and visiting the Seattle Museum of Flight multiple times a year since before I can remember. I know what these era of planes look like because I've seen a number of them up close in person. I know what the metal feels like because I've climbed into a B17 and sat in the cockpit - a guided tour by a WWII veteran. All this made me uniquely qualified to identify and texture each different airplane needed for the various scenes. As part of this I compiled a spreadsheet outlining the battle taking place in the Vanguard storyline, and which historically accurate planes/tanks/vehicles would have been used, and then updated it with a vintage photo/render comparison as I completed each piece. Historical accuracy was essential and extremely strict on this project. The actual renders themselves were done by the artists doing the scene layout and lighting.
